2008 Physician's Talent Showcase
Local Physicians Embrace the
Art of Performance
On October 20, 12 of Naples’ Top
Physicians forwent the “art of healing” and embraced the “art of
performance,” all for the benefit of two local charities – the
Neighborhood Health Clinic and the Scholarship Fund. The
nearly sold-out event took place at Sugden Community Theatre and
was emceed by Steinway Piano Gallery’s own Rob Meads.
More than $20,000 was raised to
benefit the Neighborhood Health Clinic and the
Steinway Piano Society Scholarship Fund.
The evening began with a silent auction reception, and then
featured performances by Dr. Christy Cugini, Dr. Lee Anderson,
Dr. Catherine David, Dr. Dan Kaplan, Dr. Monica Otero, Dr.
Millard Brooks, Dr. Joseph Lang (and son) Dr. Robert Statfeld,
Dr. Marty Cohn, Dr. Hope Heisler, Dr. Richard Linden, and Dr.
Phil Vigoda. These physician pianists, guitarists and vocalists
were backed up by the band, “Throat Culture” composed of
Steinway Piano Society founder Greg Billings and other society
members.
Billings said “There are plenty of studies that show how music
benefits the brain; it’s no wonder that many doctors are also
trained musicians.”
According to his wife Sara Billings, RN, Event
Chairperson,
“everyone had a great time and we were able to raise a
substantial amount for two great charities.” The
Neighborhood Health Clinic delivers quality medical care to
low-income uninsured Collier County adults and the Scholarship
fund provides pianos and lessons to economically disadvantaged
children.
