On Saturday May 30, 2009,
the finalists of the 2009 FGCU/Steinway Young Artist
Competition performed at the FGCU Student Union Ballroom.
The results of the competition were announced following the
recital, and prizes were awarded to this year's 16 talented
students.

Group of
winning students with Dr. Michael Baron, program director,
Meghan Brachle, competition chairperson, and Greg Billings,
founder of the Steinway Piano Society.
Over 60 students aged 6 to
18 participated in the 10th annual competition. The event
was co-sponsored by the FGCU Bower School of Music. Dr.
Michael Baron, head of piano studies at FGCU, addressed the
winners and spoke about the benefits of participating in
competitions at an early age.
The competition was divided
into four categories: Early Elementary (Grades K-3), Late
Elementary (Grades 4-6), Junior (Grades 7-9) and Senior
(Grades 10-12).
