On Saturday May 31, The Steinway Piano
Society of Southwest Florida awarded over $11,000 to 12
winners of the 2008 Florida Gulf Coast University / Steinway
Piano Competition. The University also awarded scholarships.
The event took place in the Student Union Ballroom of
Florida Gulf Coast University, with over 200 people in
attendance.

Nearly 100 students aged 6 to 18
participated in the 9th annual competition. For the past
three years, the event has been co-sponsored by Florida Gulf
Coast University's Bower School of Music. Associate
Professor and Head of Piano Studies, Dr. Michael Baron
addressed the winners and spoke on the benefits of
participating in competitions at an early age.
The competition was divided into four categories: Early
Elementary (Grades K-3), Late Elementary (Grades 4-5),
Junior (Grades 6-9), and Senior (Grades 10-12).
