Rare & Exotic
Vintage Steinway Grands
Piano Restoration is an Art and the Steinway
Piano Gallery service technicians are master craftsmen who unite
meticulous precision and timeless beauty. Each piano is handled with
care throughout every step of the process. Admiring their work is
always a pleasure, but when something genuinely exotic and rare is
restored- something with a history to match- that piano becomes a
true masterpiece that makes itself heard even before the keys are
touched.
Some of the most exquisite pianos restored by
Steinway Piano Gallery technicians include an 1865 ornate Rosewood
square-rimmed Grand piano; a treasured heirloom which belonged to
the Cartier family of jewelers; a Steinway “Modern” Piano with
Art-Deco style and a Steinway “Spanish” Piano with beautiful
carvings and curly legs.

Ornate Rosewood Grand

This beautiful instrument was built in 1865, only
seven years after Steinway & Sons first piano in the United States
was built, and the two pianos are almost identical. The original was
built in 1857, just years after Heinrich Steinway first arrived in
the U.S. from Germany. The workbench on which he made this piano can
still be seen at Steinway Hall in New York City. The technology used
when this piano was built makes this instrument a very modern piano,
even by today's standards. This piano remains one of the most
important Steinways ever built as a work of art.
It has been suggested for many years that the
case of solid Brazilian rosewood carvings were done by Gustav of the
Herter Family, the most important American cabinetmakers in the U.S.
in the third quarter of the 19th century. The original
one-of-a-kind, first Steinway art-case grand piano serial # 1225 is
currently on display at Steinway Hall at 109 West 57th Street in New
York City. The 1865 piano, serial # owned by the Kelley Family, is
currently on display at Steinway Piano Gallery.
Cartier Piano

The Cartier Family found its niche in the world
of luxury timepieces in the 20th century. Crafting their
products of the finest, most durable and exquisite materials, the
Cartier name hold an esteemed position in both luxury watches and
jewelry. For a family who enjoys an expertise and craftsmanship that
has set their jewelry apart from the ordinary, it is only natural
that their choice of piano would be that which sets the standard for
uncompromising quality, the Steinway Grand.
The Steinway Piano Gallery in Bonita Springs had
the pleasure of rebuilding and refinishing the Cartier family’s
Model A 6’2” Mahogany Steinway. Circa 1907, this gorgeous and rare
piano has been fully restored. One of the most unique and
interesting instruments currently offered in the Gallery, some of
its noteworthy attributes include a rarely seen configuration of six
legs and original ivory keys. A Cartier Family Heirloom for decades,
the family has memories of the likes of Thomas Edison, Henry Ford
and Henry Firestone gathered around the piano singing Christmas
Carols.
Steinway “Spanish”

This incredible work of art was built in the
pre-depression era of 1927. Steinway considered it their “Spanish”
style and this beautiful 5’7” grand is in a handsome warm walnut
satin finish. Its uniqueness includes six spiral carved legs and
hand-carvings on the side, legs and music desk.
Steinway “Modern” S

In the 1940’s Steinway produced a piano called
the “Modern”. It was built just six years after Steinway & Sons
introduced the 5’1” Model S, the first baby grand piano. Here it is
completely restored in a high polish ebony cabinet. Built in 1940,
notice the uniqueness of the legs and the distinguished silver
Steinway emblem on the key cover. This restoration was beautifully
done inside and out.

Macassar Ebony

Also known as French Rosewood, Macassar Ebony
comes from the African East Indies. An extremely valued wood, it is
often used for inlays and other ornamental work. The color ranges
from dark brown to black, with many of the logs streaked with
yellowish brown or gray. Grain markings are fine and very
indistinct. Your exclusive Steinway & Sons Dealer will be pleased to
give you a complete presentation of all the magnificent wood veneers
included in the Steinway Crown Jewel Collection.
Marbelized

A pioneer in the world of furniture finishes,
Steinway & Sons hold over 114 patents, with many of them pertaining
to special cabinetry and finishes. Steinway recently released a
Marbelized Grand. The luster and color of marble have been so well
replicated in this finish that the piano appears to be sculpted of
marble.
