Final Round:
January 25, 2009

The Bower
School of Music is pleased to announce the 2009 Florida Gulf
Coast University/Steinway National Piano Competition to
encourage and reward outstanding High School Senior Piano
students. The final round of the competition will be held on
the beautiful FGCU campus in Fort Myers, Florida on January
25, 2009. The preliminary round deadline is December 15,
2008 which will be conducted by recorded submissions.
Steinway
is the official instrument of choice of the FGCU/ Steinway
National Piano Competition.
Eligibility
-
Students currently enrolled in their senior year in high
school.
-
Individuals with a High School Diploma who are eligible to
attend a university.
- Current
undergraduate college
students.
Competition Prizes
First Prize: $1500
Plus a
full-tuition, renewable scholarship to major in music at the
Bower School of Music at Florida Gulf Coast University,
awarded separately at the discretion of the judges.
Second Prize: $750
Plus a
full-tuition, renewable scholarship to major in music at the
Bower School of Music at Florida Gulf Coast University,
awarded separately at the discretion of the judges.
Honorable Mentions
Various
scholarships to major in piano at the Bower School of Music
at Florida Gulf Coast University.
Prizewinners do not need to enroll at Florida Gulf Coast
University to claim cash prizes.
Scholarships are contingent on acceptance to both Florida
Gulf Coast University and the Bower School of Music.
Required Repertoire
For the
Preliminary Round the contestant must submit a high quality
audio or video recording of three contrasting pieces of
their choice. Individual sonata or suite movements are
permitted. Repeats are optional.
The live
Final Round will also consist of three contrasting pieces
that may or may not be the same pieces that were selected
for the Preliminary Round.
Rules of Competition
1)
Decisions of the judges are final.
2) All
works must be performed by memory.
3)
Contestants may be stopped during the performance of any
work due to time limitations.
4) All
applicants who advance to the final round will provide the
panel of adjudicators with one published edition of each
piece performed in the competition. No unauthorized
reproductions of music will be accepted.
5)
Unauthorized recording of any competition event will not be
allowed.
6)
Contestants are responsible for their own transportation and
lodging.
Deadline: All application materials must be postmarked by
December 15, 2008.

Audition recording clearly labeled with name of applicant
and repertoire.
• Proof
of Eligibility (i.e. current high school or college
